Technology, photography and a lasting love for Rome

About Patrick

Patrick is the web developer for this website about Rome. I occasionally help with the writing and photography, but mainly focus on the technology, photography and selecting places that make a trip to Rome even more enjoyable.

My love for Rome started long before I first visited the city. I have always enjoyed films set in ancient Roman times, and from the moment I could read comics, Asterix and Obelix were my heroes. Because of that, ancient Rome already felt special to me at an early age.

What I love about Rome is that the city feels like an open-air museum. In some places, you still get a sense of what the Roman Empire must have looked like two thousand years ago. The Colosseum and Roman Forum are impressive, of course, but the less crowded buildings, museums and squares are just as much part of the experience. Piazza del Popolo, with its twin churches and beautifully balanced layout, is one of those places I always enjoy returning to.

Favorite Rome activity

Cycling through Villa Borghese

One of my favorite things to do in Rome with the family is cycling through Villa Borghese on an 4 person electric family bike. It is relaxed, fun for children and shows you a different side of the city. You are away from the busiest streets for a while, surrounded by greenery, with lovely views and plenty of places to stop along the way.

I am happy to leave most of the writing to Angelina and Elisabeth. Angelina knows Rome through the trips we have taken together and as a family, while Elisabeth brings real depth through her Roman background and the years she lived in the city. My own background is in programming and web development, so I mainly make sure the website works well, loads quickly and feels pleasant to use.

I also help with photography and with selecting excursions, museums, parks and other places that can make a holiday in Rome even better. Every time I visit Rome, I discover something new. Sometimes it is a view, like Castel Sant'Angelo from the bridge, sometimes a square, a museum or simply a street I had not walked through before.
